Description

Keywords: neocolonialism, colonization, imperialism, South Africa, English, Xhosa, Cape Town, Westernization, Eurocentric, Literature

A narrative of when I gained knowledge about the implication of the English Language on countries, cultures, and Native languages that were colonized by Europeans. I was once a believer that the best thing an African child needs is a good education. After deciding to study abroad in South Africa, I decided to read some literature from the African country and my entire perspective changed. After I went to South Africa, I thought I would feel like I made an impact on the change of my student's life, but in the end, I felt more like a colonizer.
