In the front of this image is a monument to Ninoes Heroes, a group of six Mexican military cadets who were killed during the battle of Chapultepec, a major battle fought during the Mexican-American War. In the background of the photos is Chapultepec Castle itself. The castle is currently a museum of national history but in the past was a royal palace.
