Description
This image shows a large group of men leaving the Highland Park Ford Factory in Detroit, Michigan. The Highland Park factory opened in 1910 and was the birthplace of Ford’s moving assembly line, which led to the first mass-produced car: the Model T. Due to its speedy assembly, Ford reduced the car’s price from $700 to $350 by 1917, becoming the first widely affordable automobile. Ford at the time also paid workers nearly three times the wages of other similar factories.
