Description
Jaipur was built in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh II, the Kachhwaha Rajput ruler of Amer, and is named after him. He laid out the city such that the main streets are straight and all 111 feet wide and divided by cross streets into 6 sectors--something that was unusual for the time of construction. The streets are also all paved, curbed, and have sidewalks along them, allowing for people, camels, and push-carts to all navigate the roads easily. While it's not possible to tell in this picture, all of the buildings are built of stucco and painted pink earning it the nickname of the Pink City.
