The 45th star on the United States flag represents the state of Utah. Utah was admitted to the Union on January 4, 1896, and the 45-star flag was officially adopted on July 4, 1896. This flag remained in use until July 4, 1908, when Oklahoma joined the Union and a new 46-star flag was adopted.
