A view of the Hudson River from West Point, New York. Situated on the western bank of the Hudson River, West Point is the oldest continuously occupied military post in the United States. George Washington situated his headquarters there for the summer and fall of 1779, at the tail end of the Revolutionary War. It has been occupied by the United States military since 1778, who has not left the area since.
