Description

In this image, one of Trenton, New Jersey’s porcelain manufacturers are depicted decorating a piece of porcelainware. Out of all the porcelain manufacturers in Trenton, the Ott & Brewer company is one of the most famous porcelain producers in the nations’ history. One of the company’s biggest achievements was creating a perfected body material that near seamlessly replicated Irish Belleek porcelainware, a product which would become known as ivory porcelain. The company was also one of the first to pioneer transferring lithographic images onto porcelain. Decorating porcelain is the last step before the pottery undergoes its final kiln firing. The process involves painting on an underglaze design or overglaze enamel and then setting the glaze and designs by performing a brief glaze-firing in the kiln.
