Description
A Japanese woman reeling silk from the cocoons of silkworms, in the Yamagata prefecture of Japan. The woman has removed their outer layers and has placed them in a pan of water. A sticky substance holding it together dissolves, and the threads can be spun on the spindle now. Spinning silk in the home was a common practice in Japan.
