Description

This lantern slide image is a side view of Southern facade, semi-circular palladian portico and the back side of the West wing of the White House, a portion of Pennsylvania Avenue NW and, in the distance, the West front of the U.S. Capitol, in Washington D.C. Beyond the White House, to the East, the U.S. Treasury Building can be seen, with its columned facade and portico. The White House gardens are visible. A fence separates the gardens from The President’s Park, a circular lawn, with walkways, park benches and monuments. The Romanesque Rival clock tower of the Old Post Office Building can be seen, midway between the White House and the Capitol, on the right side of Pennsylvania Avenue.
