Abstract
A recording of Reuben Tenai and Samson Tiki discussing beliefs about the aitu mate (spirits of dead ancestors) in the traditional ritual beliefs of the Sikaiana people of the Solomon Islands before their conversion to Christianity in the 1930s. Recorded by Bill Donner as part of ethnographic research on Sikaiana from 1980-83. Deceased ancestors were consulted in trances with their mediums (vaka). They could bring help to friends and family or harm to enemies.
