Abstract

A Sikaiana guitar song recorded in 1981-2. This was a very popular song and can be heard in the film in this archive, "Women's Celebration" and elsewhere. The song describes the sadness of lovers as they are separated when a boat leaves with one of the lovers. Travel between Sikaiana and other parts of the Solomon Islands, especially Honiara, was frequent in the 1980s and often divided sweethearts, friends and family. Thus, the popularity of this song.
