Abstract
The opioid crisis is the worst public health emergency faced by the United States today, bar the COVID pandemic. It has been the causes of thousands of American deaths, and has torn families, friends, and entire communities apart. Causes of the crisis, the history of opioids and their genesis, and other aspects such as at-risk demographics are discussed. To help those effected by the crisis, we need to work to change the narrative around addiction, and make addiction-combatting resources more available to those struggling with a dependence on opioids
