Description
This image depicts the Old Senate Chamber, one of the oldest parts of the US Capitol Building. It was used by the Senate for much of the first half of the 19th century until a new Senate room was built. The Supreme Court then moved in and used the room for the latter half of the 19th century and early 20th century. It was in this room that the Supreme Court made many important decisions regarding slavery and the rights of black Americans.
