Description
Silkworms were commonly farmed in Japan, as farmers needed their cocoons to make silk. Families raise mulberry trees to feed the silkworms before buying a supply of eggs, keeping them warm until they hatch. Then, they feed them mulberry leaves until they build a cocoon, selling most of the cocoons to silk mills. There, reeling machines unwind the silk and turn it into silk threads for weaving.
