Description
In this image, American Falls can be seen from the American side, as indicated by the angle of view. The falls are seen from a sharp angle on the American side but can be viewed head on from the Canadian side. 110 feet tall at their highest and 950 feet wide at their widest, the torrent passing over the falls is about two feet deep, with roughly eleven percent of the Niagara River coursing over the falls. Goat Island divides American Falls from Horseshoe Falls, offering another view visitors can observe the falls from. Numerous rockfalls have made the falls into a modified W shape, and caused the US Army Corps of Engineers to temporarily divert the falls to ensure that the waterfall did not turn into a series of rapids, diminishing the tourism appeal.
