Description
The Theodore Roosevelt Dam rests on the Salt River, near Phoenix, Arizona, and forms the Theodore Roosevelt Lake. It began construction in 1903 as part of a bigger federal reclamation project. Formally opened in 1911, with a length of 1,210 ft, and height of 357 ft. At the time of opening it was the largest masonry dam in the world, and Roosevelt Lake was briefly the world’s largest artificial reservoir. The dam was built for water storage and flood control to help irrigation efforts in the area.
