Description
In the early 1900s while the sugar beet industry was on its uprising, sugar beets contributed to 5.9 million tons of sugar worldwide in 1916, with America ranked fourth in the world with 646,000 tons. Colorado led this charge followed by California and Michigan being our main sugar beet producers. The ground would be sowed as shown in the image and then planted, requiring great labor, thriving in highly populated areas where help was cheap and bountiful. Ultimately, the sugar beets would be sent to factories where the juices would be extracted and the remains would be used as cow feed or fertilizer.
