Description
The Old North Church in Boston was built in 1723 as part of the Protestant Episcopal Church. It was made famous because of its role in the American Revolution on the night of April 18, 1775. That night, two lit lanterns were hung in the steeple, which alerted Paul Revere and others that the British were crossing the Charles River by boat. The church is a stop on the 2.5 mile-long Freedom Trail, which visits sixteen locations important to American history.
