Description

This lantern slide depicts the historic Old State House in Boston, Massachusetts, which was built in 1657. The Old State House has seen many events in United States history, being a central location for several events of the Revolutionary War. One major event that the building experienced was that it was near the site of the Boston Massacre, a key moment that spurred the Colonies to rebel against England. It was also the chosen meeting place of the Bostonian public, who gathered to listen to the Declaration of Independence being read aloud to the crowd. The building would later act as the Massachusetts government headquarters until it was moved in 1798.
