Description
The Reichstag building located in Berlin, Germany was originally made to house the German parliament in the newly unified empire. The building was designed by architect Paul Wallot in the Neo-Renaissance style and was constructed from 1884-1894. The building plays a significant role in the evolution of German politics. In 1933, the building was set on fire, which led to the Reichstag Fire Decree and helped the Nazi party gain power. During WW2, the building was damaged and did not go through reconstruction until 1990 when Germany was reunified. Today, the Reichstag houses the lower federal chamber of parliament, the Bundestag.
