Description

This slide depicts the Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall locate in Boston, Massachusetts. Faneuil Hall was originally built in 1742 as a gift from the wealthy Bostonian merchant Peter Faneuil to act as a meeting place for individuals ranging from merchants and fishermen to famous speakers. It would later become the home of the Boston government while continuing to be a meeting place for community events. Quincy Market was added to the Faneuil Hall complex in 1826 to accommodate Boston’s growth and need for a larger marketplace. However, by the mid-1900s the marketplace had been abandoned and was nearly torn down by the city government, only remaining today in a new revitalized state thanks to community activists who fought in 1976 to preserve the Boston landmark.
