Sikaiana: Church

Anglican missionaries of the the Melanesian Mission (now Church of Melanesia) arrived on Sikaiana in 1929. A rapid and almost complete conversion to Christianity took place over the next few years. Christianity is very important in Sikaiana life. Almost everyone is a member of the Church of Melanesia. These pictures are from the church’s activities. In the 1980s, there were are church services twice every day on Sikaiana. The resettlement community in Tenaru outside of Honiara also holds services.
