Working copra was one of the main forms of making money on Sikaiana until 1986 when cyclone Namu harmed the coconut branches.
Mature coconuts that have fallen to the ground were collected. They were split and the split parts were put on a dryer. They were pried out of the shell and then heated more. The copra was weighed and sold to the local cooperative store which, in turn, sent the coconuts to be sold in Honiara.
As of 2021, I do not know if copra is still being collected on Sikaiana.
