Salomon Mamaloni, Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, visited Sikaiana in 1982. As part of his visit, Sikaiana people performed some traditional activities including the beginning of the traditional Teika Lle. As the Prime Minister arrived at shore ashore, women lift him up and carry him. They took him to the central area of the village in front of the court house, where they made speeches. Sikaiana people then performed a re-enactment of the Manea, a traditional ceremony associated with refurbishing the traditional ritual house (Hale Aitu), and some traditional dances. John Kilatu was dressed as the traditional chief (Aliki) and Fane Telena as his female ritual assistant (Sapai Ulu).
