Public Significance Statement
This study sheds light on the often-overlooked experiences of Chinese international counseling students navigating social and cultural diversity courses in U.S.-based programs. By listening to their stories, the research uncovers how these students wrestle with cultural differences, feelings of exclusion, and the desire to belong while striving to grow as future counselors. The findings emphasize the urgent need for more culturally sensitive approaches in counselor education, so that all students, regardless of background, feel understood, supported, and empowered. Making these changes can help build a more inclusive and effective counseling profession for everyone.
