Description
This slide depicts New York City from a photo taken atop the Woolworth Tower. The tower once held the record for tallest building in the world between 1913 to 1929. The building acted as the headquarters for both Frank Winfield Woolworth’s five-and-ten-cent store chain and the Irving Trust group. Both groups had a hand in designing and constructing the building, but in 1931, the Irving Trust group moved their operations out of the building. The Woolworth company owned the building for much of the Twentieth Century, selling it to the Witkoff Group in 1998. The building later had the top thirty floors redesigned into residences as of 2012 and serves as a housing site, business offices, and a national and New York City landmark to this day.
