These are Oral stories from Sikaiana, collected between 1980 and 1993 by Bill Donner. They include legends, traditional rituals, historical events, and customs. I will be adding to this collection for at least a few months.
I will start with an interview in English with Dr. John Kilatu in 1981. He was a very accomplished person. He describes his memories of traditional Sikaiana life before the arrival of missionaries, and then his life, education and work. I think this is an excellent introduction into Sikaiana traditions and life in the 20th century, and since it is in English, it will be accessible to many people.
There are a variety of different materials, including tala (faery tales), historical legends and events, and other stories. I have a note about the transcriptions and translations of these stories (002 Transcription Notes). I strongly encourage people to read this note to give background about any transcriptions and translations.
